Back from Colombia...

My wife and I had an excellent vacation trip the last two weeks to visit her family and see the sights in Colombia.  Apart from a brief vist in 1989, my last time in Colombia was as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the late 1970s.  Lot's of changes in the meantime, and Bogota, the capital, has undergone enormous growth and modernization.

Trip highlights included the amazing Salt Cathedral in Ziqaquira, the wonderfully preserved city center in Cartagena, and tranquil Villa de Leiva and other colonial and crafts centers in the Boyaca region north of Bogota.

Colombia Technology Resources

In preparing for my travel to Colombia over the next two weeks, I have run across some interesting web resources on technology issues and capabilities in the country (quite a dynamic environment!):

• Proceedings, contacts and agendas from the ambitious ICEGOV Conferenceon Electronic Governance held in Bogota last November.
• Coming closer to home, the web page of the Camara de Comercio de Tulua, where I served as a Peace Corp Volunteer in the late 1970s.  The activity of this site seems to reflect considerable economic growth in the area over the last several years.

I look forward to sharing more impressions about Colombia and how it has changed when I return to the U.S. on March 18.  The trip is mostly vacation, including a side-trip to Cartagena, so expect some photos as well!
